Along with my academic work, I provide both consulting and investigative services to government agencies, lawyers, not-for-profits, media organisations and businesses.

As a researcher, I specialise in evidence-based policing, advancing best-practice criminal investigations, protecting against wrongful convictions, and examining how the justice system responds to so-called “vice” offences such as illicit drug use, sex work and pornography.

As a lawyer and policy consultant, I have provided evidence-based policy advice, program evaluation and strategic analysis as well as communication and writing services to a variety of clients across Australia, including NSW Health, the WA Law Reform Commission, and Harm Reduction Victoria.

As a licensed private investigator, I provide the unique capacity to conduct factual investigations, criminal case reviews and intelligence-led inquiries, with a particular focus on evidence collection and criminal investigation critique.

Core services offered include:

  • Evidence checks and literature reviews: including the rapid identification, synthesis and appraisal of academic and grey literature to inform evidence-based decision-making.

  • Program and service evaluation: including an expert assessment of the effectiveness, efficacy and impact of programs and services through the use of qualitative and/or quantitative evaluation methods.

  • Legal and policy analysis: including the critical analysis of legislation, policy frameworks and regulatory settings, with a focus on social impact, paricularly crime prevention.

  • Investigation review: including expert analysis of criminal, coronial and civil investigations to identify missed investigative leads, procedural or evidentiary errors as well as the potential risks to the integrity or admissibility of evidence.

  • Factual investigations: including the compilation of open-source intelligence, conducting of interviews and taking witness statements, reviewing of documents and the undertaking of surveillance activities to gather evidence to assist legal matters and disputes.

  • Strategic communications: including the drafting of blogs, feature articles, reports and fact sheets on specialist topics related to criminal law, justice reform and policy matters.
